AI is making obscene photos of women, government warns
New Delhi. The Central Government has given a strong warning to X. The Center has said that Grok AI is making obscene photos of women. Therefore they should be removed immediately. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has written a letter to the Chief Compliance Officer of the social media platform owned by Elon Musk. This letter states that Grok should immediately conduct a comprehensive review and remove or disable access to illegal content.
Why did you express concern?
The letter from the Ministry of Information Technology said that Grok, a service developed by you and made available on the X platform, is being used to create obscene or humiliating pictures and videos of women. Apart from this, it is being used to publish or share wrong things. Due to this, women are being insulted in an indecent manner. The letter further said that such behavior reflects a serious failure of platform-level security measures and systems. This amounts to serious misuse of AI technology in violation of relevant laws.
Also asked to give report
The ministry has also asked X to ensure immediate compliance and report on action taken. The notice specifically seeks to take concrete steps to curb the hosting, creation, publication, broadcast, sharing or uploading of obscene, nude, objectionable or sexually explicit material generated by misuse of ‘Grok’.
Legal action may be taken
The Ministry has warned that non-compliance with the prescribed statutory provisions will be viewed seriously and if this happens, strict legal action can be taken against the platform, its responsible officials and users violating the law without any additional notice.
According to the order, in such a situation, action will be taken under the Information Technology Act, IT Rules, Indian Judicial Code (BNS), Indian Civil Security Code (BNSS) and other applicable laws.
