AI will enhance human capabilities manifold: Narendra Modi
New Delhi, 19 February 2026: In the world’s largest and historic ‘India AI Impact Summit 2026’ held in the capital Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had described Artificial Intelligence (AI) as the biggest change in human history. Global tech leaders including Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Open-AI’s Sam Altman and Metana Alexander Wang were present on the occasion. Prime Minister Modi had said in his address, “AI is not only making machines intelligent, but it will also increase the efficiency of humans manifold. Just as the world was once connected through wireless signals, AI will also bring a new turn in human history. What we are seeing now is just a beginning.”
Emphasizing on India’s potential, PM Modi said that India is the center of the world’s largest youth population and the largest tech talent pool. Earlier it took decades to see the impact of technology, but today the speed and scale of machine learning is unimaginable. The way the youth of the world are adopting AI and taking ownership of it is praiseworthy.
Giving a beautiful example, PM Modi said, “We should give open space to AI, but its command (control) should be in our hands, just like GPS shows us the way but the decision in which direction to go is ours. We have to ensure that man does not remain just a ‘data point’ or ‘raw material’.”
The Prime Minister said in a cautionary tone that we have the example of nuclear power, which can cause destruction as well as provide positive benefits. We have to decide what form of AI we hand over to the next generation. He called for making ‘skilling’ and ‘reskilling’ a mass movement.
