digital desk- Election activity has intensified in Tamil Nadu politics. The state’s main opposition party AIADMK on Wednesday released its first list of candidates for the upcoming assembly elections. This election is proposed on 23rd April and all the parties are entering the fray with their own strategy. Names of 23 candidates have been included in this first list, in which the party has once again expressed confidence in many of its veteran leaders. The most important name is party president K. Palaniswami, who has been re-nominated from his home constituency Edappadi. This seat is considered to be his strong hold and the party is expecting a big victory from here.
Trust in veteran leaders maintained
AIADMK has retained many experienced leaders in its first list. Among these, K.P. Munusamy, Dindigul C. Srinivasan and Natham R. Prominent names like Vishwanathan are included. The party has clearly indicated that it wants to enter the electoral fray with the help of experience and organizational strength. Apart from this, the party has also expressed confidence in influential leaders of Western Tamil Nadu. S.P. Velumani has been made the candidate from Thondamuthur and P. Thangamani from Kumarapalayam seat. Both these leaders have a strong support base in their respective areas and are considered “star campaigners” of the party.
AIADMK entered the field with strategy
AIADMK is contesting the elections this time in alliance with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and is also leading the alliance in the state. It is clear from the selection of candidates in the first list that the party has tried to strike a balance where on one hand experienced faces have been retained, while on the other hand regional equations have also been kept in mind. According to party sources, the second and third lists will also be released in the coming days, in which the names of the candidates for the remaining seats will be announced. Meanwhile, Nam Tamizhar Katchi (NTK) has already announced its candidates for all 234 seats. However, AIADMK has become the first major party in the state to officially release its electoral list, albeit a partial one.
Election contest will be interesting
This time’s election in Tamil Nadu is being considered very interesting. On one hand, AIADMK is trying to return to power with the help of its traditional vote bank and alliance, while on the other hand, other parties are also trying their best. Political analysts believe that from the first list, AIADMK has made it clear that it is playing a “safe game” and betting only on its strong faces. Now everyone’s eyes are on what kind of new and old faces the party gives a chance on the remaining seats.
