Ranchi: An air ambulance flying from the capital Ranchi to Delhi has crashed. The plane had flown with Latehar patient Sanjay Kumar and crashed near Simaria in Chatra. There were seven people on board the plane, including two pilots and a patient, Sanjay Kumar, and his two relatives. A doctor and a paramedic staff were also on board the plane.

Ranchi Uda Air Ambulance Crash
According to the information received, the charter ambulance went missing between Latehar and Palamu while going from Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi to Delhi. There were seven passengers on board this plane. The plane had taken off from Ranchi for Delhi at 5:30 pm, the air ambulance was to reach Delhi at 8:30 pm but when the signal was broken by Varanasi air traffic, information about the plane was lost.

The patient has been identified as 41-year-old Sanjay Kumar who suffered burn injuries. Sanjay Kumar was admitted to Devkamal Hospital in Ranchi on 16 February. According to the medical report, he was admitted due to petrol burns. On 23rd, Dr. Anant Sinha referred the patient to Delhi and in the evening the plane took off with Sanjay Kumar and his two family members.
Relief and rescue work continues after the accident
As soon as information about the accident was received, teams of Chatra district administration and local police rushed to the spot. The state government and DGCA are preparing for a high-level investigation into this entire incident. There were a total of 7 people on board the plane. These included 01 patient, 01 doctor and 01 paramedic, 02 attendants (family of the patient), 01 chief pilot (PIC) and 01 co-pilot.
The private charter ambulance took off from Ranchi Airport for Delhi at 7:00 pm on Monday evening. It was to land at Palam Airport in Delhi at 8:30 pm. But shortly after take off, the plane was over the geographically inaccessible areas of Jharkhand. Suddenly it lost contact with Air Traffic Control (ATC).

DGCA statement
Issuing an official statement, DGCA said, ‘On 23.02.2026, Beechcraft C90 aircraft (Registration Number: VT-AJV) of Redbird Airways Pvt. Ltd., which was flying medical evacuation (air ambulance) flight on “Ranchi-Delhi” sector, crashed at Kasariya Panchayat in Chatra district of Jharkhand. A total of seven persons, including two crew members, were on board the plane. Chatra SP Sumit Aggarwal said that information has been received from the villagers and the police team has left for the spot.
