Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh inaugurates MiG-29 UPG
Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, Chief of the Air Staff, flew a solo sortie of MiG-29 UPG at a forward operational base on Thursday. The exact location of the MiG-29 UPG sortie and WAC base has not been disclosed due to security reasons.
New Delhi: Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh on Thursday flew a solo sortie of MiG-29 UPG multi-role aircraft at a forward operational base. This flight is considered important in terms of demonstrating the capability of modernization and operational preparedness of the Indian Air Force. Due to security reasons, the location of the MiG-29 sortie and the forward base of the Air Force were not made public.
After the flight, Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh met senior officers at the base and interacted with the soldiers who have served the country for a long time. He paid special attention to the operational readiness, combat capabilities and mission readiness of the forward base. The Air Chief said that testing and strengthening the preparedness of the Air Force is necessary from time to time to ensure national security.
Features of MiG-29 UPG
The MiG-29 is a twin-engine fighter aircraft of Mikoyan design, originally developed in the Soviet Union in the 1970s. This aircraft was designed to counter the American F-16 aircraft and was inducted into the Indian Air Force in the 1980s. The Indian Air Force upgraded its MiG-29 fleet to the UPG version, which is a fourth generation air superiority fighter aircraft.
Under this upgrade, the aircraft has included the latest avionics, modern radar systems, air-to-air and air-to-surface weapon systems, and air-to-air refueling capability. Key technical characteristics of MiG-29 UPG:
