Air Force Hercules plane carrying currency crashes in Bolivia, 15 killed, 30 injured
There was chaos in Bolivia’s El Alto city on Saturday when an Air Force Hercules aircraft crashed. 15 people died tragically in this accident, while more than 30 people were injured. The plane was carrying newly printed currency notes for the country’s Central Bank.
According to the information, this accident happened during landing at El Alto International Airport. Due to bad weather, the aircraft lost control after landing on the runway and skidded into a nearby busy road. As soon as the plane fell on the road, many vehicles present there also got hit by it.
Plane slides off runway and breaks into two pieces
According to Reuters report, the speed of the plane was so high that it broke into two pieces as soon as it fell on the road. 10 to 15 vehicles were also badly damaged in this collision. After the accident, plane debris, broken cars and dead bodies were scattered on the road, creating a horrifying scene.
The footage released in local media shows the plane in a badly damaged condition. The national airline issued a statement clarifying that the aircraft was not part of its fleet, but belonged to the Air Force.
There was a race to pick up the notes scattered on the road
The most shocking picture of the accident came to light when currency notes along with the wreckage of the plane were scattered on the road. A crowd of people gathered at the spot to pick up these notes. Some unconfirmed videos viral on social media show that local authorities had to use water cannon and tear gas to control the situation.
El Alto International Airport has been temporarily closed after this incident. The Central Bank of Bolivia will soon hold a press briefing on this matter. The administration has started an official investigation into the cause of the accident and the injured are undergoing treatment in local hospitals.
