The nose gear broke off after a hard landing

According to the information received, the Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft of the airline was landing at Phuket International Airport on Wednesday afternoon and the speed of the aircraft was very high. This caused the aircraft’s nose wheel to separate and damage the nose landing gear. According to a social post by the Thai Inquirer, all passengers and crew are safe after an Air India Express flight made a hard landing at Phuket Airport. Soon after the incident, airport authorities temporarily closed the runway for safety reasons. This affected the operations of some other flights and disrupted the movement of many flights.

All 133 passengers on board were safely evacuated under emergency protocol. It is a relief that no passengers or crew members were injured in the incident. According to a statement issued by the airline, the crew followed all standard safety protocols and the passengers were evacuated safely. The plane is currently parked at the airport. As the runway was closed, many planes had to turn mid-air. Many flights were diverted to nearby airports such as Krabi and Surat Thani. According to the airport authority, there may be delays till evening due to the number of flights.

Why is nose gear important?

An aircraft’s nose gear is an important part of the landing system, supporting the front of the aircraft and assisting in directional control during taxiing, takeoff and landing. Technical teams are currently investigating the incident and trying to find out how the malfunction occurred during landing. According to flight tracking website flightradar24.com, Flight IX 938 took off from Hyderabad at 6:42 am instead of the scheduled departure time of 6:20 am and landed at Phuket International Airport at 11:40 am local time. At around 11:55, airport officials confirmed that the plane had made a hard landing, which damaged the front landing gear.
