Air travel becomes expensive: Air India increases fuel surcharge on tickets
New Delhi: Air India and Air India Express will impose a fuel surcharge of Rs 399 on every domestic flight ticket from March 12 as the prices of jet fuel ATF have risen due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia. Apart from this, fuel surcharge will also be increased for international flights.
The statement issued on Tuesday said that the new surcharge system will be implemented in a phased manner. In the first phase, a fuel surcharge of Rs 399 per ticket will be applicable on domestic and South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) flights from March 12.
The surcharge will be $10 for flights to West Asia, $90 to Africa and $60 to Southeast Asia, the statement said. All these changes will be effective from March 12, which also includes flights to Singapore. There is currently no fuel surcharge on Singapore services.
“Air India Group today announced a phased increase in fuel surcharge on its domestic and international routes, which has become necessary due to the sharp increase in jet fuel prices due to the geopolitical situation in the Gulf region,” the statement said.
