Low-cost carrier AirAsia Cambodia has announced plans to launch flights between Siem Reap City and Singapore starting Nov. 9.
It had earlier announced the start of a Siem Reap-Phuket service this winter.
“These new services will provide a much-needed boost to Cambodia’s local economy and tourism, including job creation in the crucial hospitality industry,” Nam Vissoth, CEO of AirAsia Cambodia, said as cited by Khmer Times.
In August the airline began daily flights between Phnom Penh and Kuala Lumpur.
In the first seven months of this year Cambodia received 3.7 million foreign visitors, a 23.2% year-on-year increase, according to its Ministry of Tourism.
During the period 584,375 foreign tourists purchased tickets for US$27.18 million to visit Angkor Archaeological Park, a 33% rise in the former, according to state-owned Angkor Enterprise, which oversees ticket sales.
Siem Reap serves as the gateway to the iconic ruins of Angkor, the seat of the Khmer Empire from the ninth to 15th centuries.
