Ajay Devgn's Chauhaan Teaser Faces Fresh Row
Mumbai: Ajay Devgn’s upcoming film Chauhaan has landed in fresh controversy after its teaser sparked objections from Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, who termed it “offensive” to Kashmiris and victims of pellet gun injuries. The criticism comes days after a Rajput organisation also objected to the film’s title and portrayal of history.
The teaser, which depicts scenes resembling unrest in Kashmir and features references to stone-pelting and crowd-control measures, has generated debate even before the film’s theatrical release.
NC MP objects to teaser
Speaking about the teaser, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi alleged that the language and portrayal shown in the film were insensitive towards Kashmiris.
He said the teaser was offensive to people who had suffered pellet gun injuries, claiming that many victims had lost their eyesight or even their lives during periods of unrest.
The National Conference MP urged the filmmakers to withdraw the teaser and revisit the historical and social context portrayed in the film before its release.
Rajput organisation had earlier raised objections
Before the latest criticism, the Kshatriya Parishad had also objected to the film.
The organisation alleged that the makers were using the Chauhan clan’s name for contemporary political narratives and accused them of misrepresenting Rajput history.
The group argued that medieval Indian history could not be simplified into communal narratives and cited historical figures, including Maharana Sanga and Hakim Khan Sur, while expressing concern over what it described as the “weaponisation” of Rajput history.
What the teaser shows
The teaser features a voiceover referring to decades of conflict and shows visuals resembling protests and stone-pelting incidents in Kashmir.
It also depicts the use of pellet guns and water cannons during crowd-control operations, with the narration suggesting that such measures offered only temporary solutions.
The teaser concludes with Ajay Devgn’s character delivering the dialogue, “Pathaanon se kehna, Chauhaan aa raha hai,” which has also drawn attention online.
Film scheduled for 2027 release
Directed by Neeraj Yadav, Chauhaan is scheduled to release in theatres on October 1, 2027.
Meanwhile, Ajay Devgn is preparing for the release of his upcoming comedy film Dhamaal 4, which is slated to hit theatres on July 10.
Conclusion
With objections now emerging from both a Rajput organisation and a National Conference MP, Chauhaan has become the subject of controversy months ahead of its release. It remains to be seen whether the filmmakers respond to the concerns or make any changes to the teaser or the film.
