Ajay Kumar Bhalla given additional charge of Tamil Nadu during gubernatorial transition

In the latest round of gubernatorial changes announced by the Centre, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, the Governor of Manipur, has been given additional charge of Tamil Nadu during the transition period following recent appointments and transfers of governors.

The temporary arrangement has been made to ensure administrative continuity in Tamil Nadu until a permanent governor assumes office. Bhalla will discharge the responsibilities of the Tamil Nadu governor in addition to his existing role in Manipur.

The development comes as part of a broader reshuffle of governors and lieutenant governors across several states and union territories. The Centre has announced multiple appointments and transfers, including the movement of several sitting governors to new states.

Ajay Kumar Bhalla, a former Union Home Secretary, was appointed Governor of Manipur earlier and has since been overseeing the northeastern state. With the additional responsibility, he will now also handle gubernatorial functions in Tamil Nadu for the interim period.

Such interim arrangements are common during transitions in gubernatorial positions to ensure that constitutional duties and administrative functions continue without interruption.
