Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee continues to snub Hardik Pandya, gets slammed by Aakash Chopra
India will play five T20Is against England and the selectors have continued to back young players. With Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja no more active in this format of the game, a few young faces have managed to leave a mark. The upcoming series is another chance for the youngsters to showcase their talent and skills. Suryakumar Yadav, who was preferred over Hardik Pandya for T20I captaincy, is looking forward to the upcoming assignment.
However, Hardik is being treated unfairly by the decision-makers. He led India after the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 but suddenly the BCCI decided to add Rohit Sharma to the squad when the all-rounder was injured.
He was not given captaincy in the next edition of the World Cup in 2024, with Sharma leading the Men in Blue to success. When Hardik was the front-runner for the leadership role after the global event, the national selection committee added another surprise by promoting SKY as the team’s leader, with Shubman Gill becoming his deputy.
Axar Patel has been appointed as the team’s new vice-captain for the games against the Jos Buttler-led team, with Hardik again getting a raw deal.
Aakash Chopra has questioned the selectors on why Hardik has been demoted.
“It’s a development that needs an official word, He (Pandya) was leading India in Rohit’s absence. Now, he’s not even the VC. I’d like to hear from the selectors about their thought process,” Chopra wrote on X.

Apart from winning the World Cup, he defeated Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and South Africa in the T20I series in 2024.
