Ajit and Sharad Pawar joined hands for civic elections, family reunited! Discussion continues regarding seat distribution

Maharashtra Civic Election: There has been a big upheaval in the politics of Maharashtra. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has announced the alliance of Sharad Pawar faction with NCP (SP) for the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation elections. This announcement was made in an election meeting on Sunday 28 December 2025. Let us tell you, elections are to be held in 29 municipal corporations of the state on January 15, 2026. Regarding the alliance, Ajit Pawar called it an important step for the unity of the Pawar family and the development of Maharashtra.

Main reason for alliance

Ajit Pawar said that while making the list of candidates, both the parties decided to contest the elections together. Due to this, the divided family is coming together again. There were many questions in the minds of people regarding the alliance, which has now become clear. He stressed that sometimes it is necessary to take tough decisions in the interest of the state.

Seat sharing talks are in the final stages and an official announcement will be made soon. In Pimpri-Chinchwad, this agreement is being considered as a strategy to consolidate votes against BJP.

Why did the alliance not work in Pune?

Earlier an attempt was made for Pune Municipal Corporation elections, but things did not work out. The reason for the dispute was the election symbol. Ajit faction wanted the candidates of Sharad faction to contest on ‘Ghari’ symbol, whereas Sharad faction was adamant on ‘Tuutari’. Sharad faction leader Ankush Kakde had said that accepting Ajit’s leadership would send a wrong message. That’s why both are fighting separately in Pune.

Ajit Pawar group got ‘clock’ symbol

Ajit Pawar faction got the ‘clock’ symbol due to the decision of the Election Commission and the court. Sharad group is in the field on ‘Tuutari’. Supriya Sule wants to stay with Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA), which includes Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT). But this alliance of Pimpri-Chinchwad is creating a new stir in the politics of the state.

This alliance will last only till the local elections or will extend till the assembly elections, it remains to be seen. This can help in strengthening NCP’s old vote bank. At the same time, in front of the strength of BJP, the effort to avoid division of votes is clearly visible.
