Akhilesh Yadav’s new strategy before UP elections 2027, increased focus on ‘Soft Hindutva’ along with PDA

Before the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2027, Samajwadi Party (SP) National President Akhilesh Yadav has made a major change in his political strategy. Akhilesh, who till now has given priority to backward, Dalit and minority (PDA) politics, is now seen moving forward on the path of ‘Soft Hindutva’. Darshan in temples, continuous statements on Lord Shri Ram and Sanatan, participation in religious events and vocal stance on issues related to Ram temple have become part of his new political strategy.

Political experts believe that SP is now trying to reach out to a section of Hindu voters while keeping its traditional PDA vote bank strong.

Strategy changed after Lok Sabha elections

Samajwadi Party had achieved remarkable success in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections with the slogan of PDA. After this, the party is now working towards increasing the scope of its political acceptance by maintaining this social alliance.

According to analysts, Akhilesh Yadav is now following a political line in which equal importance is being given to both social justice and religious-cultural identity.

Changed perspective on Ram temple

At one time, BJP has been accusing Samajwadi Party of keeping distance from the issues of Ram Temple and Hindutva. But now Akhilesh Yadav’s stance appears different from before.

In the alleged case of theft of Ram temple offerings, he definitely raised questions on the functioning of the trust and the government, but at the same time he also repeatedly said that “Lord Shri Ram belongs to everyone and there is a tradition of Ram Darbar in every Sanatani family.”

He accused the BJP of playing politics with both faith and the Constitution.

Increased activity in religious activities

In the last few months, the religious activities of Akhilesh Yadav and his family have also increased continuously.

  • Darshan in various temples
  • Construction of Kedareshwar Mahadev Temple in Kannauj
  • Dimple Yadav and children worshiped in many temples including Kashi Vishwanath.
  • Religious feast organized in Saifai

These activities are being considered part of the new political style of SP.

The balance between PDA and Hindutva

Political experts say that the biggest challenge before Akhilesh Yadav is to attract a section of Hindu voters while maintaining his traditional PDA vote bank.

For this reason, on one hand he talks about reservation, social justice and the Constitution, while on the other hand he also openly expresses his opinion on topics like religious events and Lord Shri Ram.

The aim of this strategy is also believed to be to prevent BJP from taking full political advantage of religious polarization.

Emphasis on digital PDA campaign also

Recently Samajwadi Party ‘PDA Self-respect Support Campaign’ is introduced.

Under this campaign-

  • Minimum contribution of Rs 20 through QR code
  • digital subscription campaign
  • Plan to strengthen the organization at booth level
  • Strategy to add new supporters

The party says that this is not only a campaign to raise funds, but also a medium to expand the organization.

New strategy against BJP’s ‘hard Hindutva’

In the politics of Uttar Pradesh, BJP has been giving prominence to issues like Ram Mandir, Kashi, Mathura, Sanatan and cultural nationalism for a long time.

On the contrary, Samajwadi Party, instead of directly opposing Hindutva, is accepting religious faith and accusing BJP of making political use of faith.

Political analyst calls it SP ‘Soft Hindutva’ strategy Are agreeing.

Focus also on religious symbols and cultural messages

Akhilesh Yadav has also mentioned astrology, religious beliefs and auspicious and inauspicious signs in public forums in recent months.

He has tried to further strengthen his new political image by mentioning night stay in Prayagraj, temple darshan and Sanatan traditions.

He has also advised his workers to avoid making controversial statements on religious matters, so that BJP does not get any political issue.

Will this strategy be successful?

The opinion of political analysts is divided on this issue.

A section believes that if the Samajwadi Party succeeds in reaching out to a section of Hindu voters while keeping the PDA alliance strong, the 2027 assembly elections could be more challenging than before for the BJP.

At the same time, other experts believe that BJP’s ideological edge on the issue of Hindutva is still strong and it will not be easy to counter it with the help of religious symbols alone.

New equation of politics of 2027

The contest in Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2027 is not going to be limited to caste equations only. On one hand, BJP will be in the election fray with the agenda of development and hard Hindutva, while on the other hand, Samajwadi Party is trying to carve new political ground with a mix of PDA, social justice and soft Hindutva.

Now it will be interesting to see how much impact Akhilesh Yadav’s changed strategy leaves in the politics of Uttar Pradesh and whether it is successful in bringing him to power.
