Akshay Kumar on LPG concerns and Twinkle’s backup plan
Mumbai: Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has revealed that his wife, author and former actor Twinkle Khanna, has already purchased two electric stoves as a precautionary measure amid concerns over Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) supply disruptions linked to the ongoing Iran-Israel War.
The actor made the remarks while speaking on the sidelines of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) Mumbai Clean League, a city-wide cleanliness initiative held on Tuesday. His comments come at a time when global geopolitical tensions have triggered discussions around fuel supply chains and potential shortages.
Preparedness at home amid global uncertainty
Addressing the media at the event, Akshay Kumar said that there is currently no immediate shortage of LPG at his residence. However, he acknowledged that his family is taking precautionary steps to prepare for any possible disruptions.
“There’s no shortage of gas at my home as of now. But my wife Twinkle has already ordered two electric stoves as a backup. I don’t know if they have already reached home or not,” he said.
His statement reflects a growing sense of caution among households, especially in urban areas, where dependence on LPG cylinders for daily cooking remains high. While authorities have not officially declared any supply crisis, global conflicts often lead to fluctuations in fuel availability and pricing, prompting citizens to explore alternatives.
Focus on cleanliness and civic responsibility
The actor also highlighted the importance of civic awareness and cleanliness during his appearance at the Mumbai Clean League event. He mentioned that he had taken time out from his busy shooting schedule to attend the programme, underlining the significance of public participation in maintaining hygiene standards in the city.
“I took time out from shooting today to come here because this issue is important. We need to move forward with a positive mindset,” he said.
The Mumbai Clean League is part of ongoing efforts by the BMC to encourage citizens, housing societies, and institutions to actively contribute to waste management and sanitation practices.
On changing trends in cinema
Apart from addressing civic issues, Akshay Kumar also spoke about the evolving nature of audience preferences in Indian cinema. Responding to a question about whether he wished to be part of the action film Dhurandhar, he candidly admitted that he was not considered for the role.
“But I don’t think Aditya Dhar thought that, so I didn’t get it,” he said.
He went on to praise the film and its lead actor Ranveer Singh, noting that audiences have responded positively to high-energy action entertainers.
“Take Dhurandhar, for example. It’s a full-fledged action film. The whole film is about action and bloodshed. People have loved it and really enjoyed it. And then there’s a hero like Ranveer Singh, who performs intense action scenes… he carries the image of a complete ‘angry young man’,” Kumar said.
The actor also emphasised that audience tastes are constantly evolving, making it difficult to predict what genres will succeed at the box office.
Rise of horror comedies and upcoming projects
Akshay Kumar pointed out the increasing popularity of horror comedies, citing the success of films like Stree. According to him, this genre is currently resonating strongly with viewers.
“Now it’s the time for horror comedies. People really like horror comedies. Everything keeps changing, and we never really know what audiences will like next,” he added.
On the work front, the actor is gearing up for multiple releases. He will next be seen in Bhooth Bangla, directed by Priyadarshan. The film is expected to tap into the growing demand for horror-comedy content.
In addition, Kumar is also part of Golmaal 5, directed by Rohit Shetty. The film features an ensemble cast including Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, and Kunal Kemmu.
Conclusion
Akshay Kumar’s remarks highlight how global developments can influence everyday decisions at the household level, even among celebrities. While there is no immediate LPG crisis, precautionary steps like adopting alternative cooking methods indicate a growing awareness and preparedness among citizens.
At the same time, the actor’s insights into cinema trends underline the dynamic nature of the entertainment industry, where audience preferences continue to shift rapidly. As he balances social responsibility with a packed film schedule, Kumar remains a prominent voice both on and off the screen.
