Akshaya Tritiya 2026: Every year Akshaya Tritiya is celebrated on the Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Vaishakh month. There is some confusion among people regarding the date in 2026—April 19 or 20?
According to the Panchang, Tritiya Tithi will start at 10:49 am on April 19 and will continue till 7:27 am on April 20. But the festival will be celebrated only on 19th April.
Why will Akshaya Tritiya be celebrated only on 19th April?
According to religious belief, “Uday Tithi” i.e. the date which falls at the time of sunrise, is more important. Although sunrise on 20th April falls on Tritiya, the right time for auspicious work and shopping starts from 19th April itself. That’s why in the local language – “The work is being done on the 19th only!”
Auspicious time to buy gold
Buying gold on Akshaya Tritiya is considered very auspicious.
Auspicious time: 19 April 10:49 am to 20 April 7:49 am
During this time you can buy gold, silver or any precious thing. It is believed that the things purchased on this day never expire and blessings remain in the house.
Religious significance of Akshaya Tritiya
This day is considered as “Abujh Muhurta”, that is, one can start any auspicious work even without looking at the Panchang. It is believed that on this day Lord Hayagriva, the incarnation of Lord Vishnu, was born. Also, the end of Satyayuga and beginning of Tretayuga is also considered on this day.
Charity, bathing and worship have special significance on this day.

Right time for puja and what to do
The auspicious time of puja will be from 10:49 am to 12:20 pm on 19th April. Worshiping Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi during this time is considered very fruitful.
