TRAI's new message traceability guidelines will have a significant impact on existing telecom providers such as Jio, Vi, BSNL, Airtel. This new measure is expected to increase message traceability and reduce cases of cyber fraud. TRAI has given deadline till November 30 to all telecom operators.

TRAI: New instructions
The move was initiated in August, under these guidelines telecom operators will have to monitor the origin of all commercial messages. Blocking all fraudulent messages coming from various international numbers which cannot be traced. As per the guidelines, all telecom operators will track all messages from sender to receiver. These include messages from financial institutions, banks and e-commerce businesses.

When it was announced in August, telecom companies were given a deadline of October 31 to implement all the measures. However, the operators asked for more time to comply. TRAI extended the deadline till November 30, giving more time to ensure proper compliance. As soon as this rule comes into effect, users will face delays in receiving their messages from financial institutions, banks and e-commerce businesses. These small inconveniences will help in creating a safer digital ecosystem and reducing cases of cyber fraud.

With the increasing trend of smartphones and technology, there has been a significant increase in the number of cyber frauds and phishing cases. Keeping this in mind, TRAI announced these guidelines, which may result in reduction of cyber frauds. In the coming year, TRAI is all set to announce a new set of guidelines to accelerate 5G infrastructure. These updates will include standardized right-of-way guidelines, which will simplify the process of installing infrastructure.
