All-round India crush Australis by 295 runs in Perth – Tezzbuzz

India have beaten Australia by 295 runs on Day 4 of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy opener in Perth. Chasing a mammoth target of 534 runs, Australia were bowled out for 238 runs in their second innings.

India thus completed a memorable turnaround to win the Test after having been bowled out for 150 in their first innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli sparkled with the bat, hitting century apiece. Captain Jasprit Bumrah produced a red-hot show with the ball, taking a five-wicket haul in the first innings that handed India 46-run lead. Bumrah continued his superb show in the second dig as well, taking three more wickets and was well supported by Mohammed Siraj who took three wickets as well.

Jaiswal scored 166 and Kohli remained unbeaten on 100 as India declared their second innings on 487/6 in 134.3 overs, setting Australia 534 runs to win.

The Indian skipper, Jasprit Bumrah is the Player of the Match for his superb showing with the ball. He said that he is happy with the way the team responded after being put under pressure in the first innings.

“Very happy with the beginning. Were put under pressure in the first innings, but the way we responded after that – very proud. Played here in 2018. I remember that when you start here, the wicket is a little soft and then it gets quicker and quicker. Was relying on that experience. This wicket was a little less spicy than the last one. We were really well prepared so I was telling everyone to have faith in their process and ability. On a given day, experience does matter, but if you have faith you can do something special. Can’t ask for anything else. Jaiswal has had a great start to his Test career. This was his best Test innings probably. He left the ball – he has an attacking nature, but he left the ball well and played long. About Virat – I didn’t see him out of form at all. On challenging wickets it’s hard to judge if a batsman is in form. He was looking good in the nets. Always enjoy the support (from the crowd),” he said.

Pat Cummins, the captain of Australia said that it is very disappointing and added that they will take a couple of day’s rest and then get back to the preps for the Adelaide Test.

He further said that they didn’t really give themselves a chance in all the facets. Further believes that they should have done well on the first day with the bat.

“There’s a lot of experience out there in the dressing room and says they very well know how to comeback. Ends by saying they will have a detailed conversation about where things went wrong and come stronger and more prepared for Adelaide,” he added.

India took a 1-0 series lead in the Border Gavaskar Trophy after a massive 295-run win over Australia in the first Test of the five-match series in Perth.

India needed two wickets in the final session of Day 4 and it took them merely five overs to complete the proceedings.

India also brought an end to Australia’s unbeaten streak since 2018 at the Optus Stadium with a statement win after the embarrassing 0-3 whitewash at the hands of New Zealand last month.

Nathan Lyon, who came in right after the Tea break, was bowled for a duck off his second delivery as he missed a straight one after he played for the turn by Washington Sundar.

Alex Carey hung around for a while and also frustrated India briefly with his 36 before being castled by Harshit Rana that sealed the win for the visitors shortly after the Tea break.
