Along with BMI, belly fat is also a major factor in obesity: Experts' opinion

If your BMI (body mass index) is correct, but fat is accumulated around the stomach, then do not take it lightly. New research conducted by NDOC, AIIMS, and Fortis Hospital in New Delhi has revealed that belly fat can give rise to many diseases. In the study, obesity has been divided into two categories and it has been told that the fat accumulated near the stomach can become a major cause of problems like diabetes, heart diseases, and hypertension.

New definition of obesity:
1. Innocuous Obesity:
In this category, the BMI of the person is increased and obesity is visible on the body, but it does not have much impact on daily activities or health. However, if not controlled it can cause serious problems.

2. Obesity with Consequences:
In the second stage, obesity is not only visible, but it also starts damaging many parts of the body. In this stage, the risk of serious diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and brain attack is high.

Shocking revelations of new research on obesity after 15 years:
This new study, which came after 15 years, states that the correct assessment of obesity will no longer be based on BMI alone. Fat around the stomach has also been considered a major cause of obesity. This study will be helpful in the correct identification and treatment of obesity and its related diseases.

2009 Guidelines:
Guidelines were made in 2009 to define obesity, but many things were not clear in them. Through new research, it will now be more effective and easier to identify and treat obesity-related diseases.

What is BMI?
BMI i.e. Body Mass Index is decided on the basis of weight and height of a person.

Overweight: When BMI is increased.
Obesity: When BMI is too high.
It is important to have correct BMI, but belly fat can also be a sign of obesity and its related diseases.
