Amarnath Yatra 2026 to Begin on July 3: Dates, Registration Process, Routes and Key Guidelines

The annual pilgrimage to the Amarnath Cave Shrine will commence on July 3, 2026, and conclude on August 28, 2026, spanning a total of 57 days.


The announcement was made by Manoj Sinha following a meeting of the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board.

The first puja is scheduled for June 19, coinciding with the occasion of Jyeshtha Purnima.


Amarnath Yatra 2026 Registration Details

Registration for the pilgrimage is mandatory and will begin from April 15, 2026.

  • Online Registration: Available on the official SASB website
  • Offline Registration: Through over 550 authorised bank branches across India
  • Mode: First-come, first-served basis
  • Deadline: Registration closes 7 days before the selected यात्रा date

Registrations can be completed through branches of:

  • State Bank of India
  • Punjab National Bank
  • ICICI Bank
  • Axis Bank
  • Yes Bank

Routes for Amarnath Yatra

Pilgrims can choose between two primary routes:

  • Pahalgam Route (Nunwan–Pahalgam, 48 km): Longer but more gradual
  • Baltal Route (14 km): Shorter but steeper and physically demanding

Both routes are managed with daily quotas to ensure safety and smooth movement.


Eligibility and Health Guidelines

To ensure safety and well-being, the following eligibility criteria apply:

  • Age Limit: 13 to 70 years
  • Health Requirement: Mandatory Compulsory Health Certificate (CHC)
  • CHC Validity: Issued on or after April 8, 2026
  • Permit Fee: ₹150 per person

Women with more than six weeks of pregnancy are advised not to undertake the yatra for safety reasons.


Yatra Permit and Verification Process

Pilgrims must obtain a Yatra Permit after successful verification of documents.

  • Health certificates will be verified by authorised bank branches
  • The permit will include:
    • date
    • Selected route (Baltal or Pahalgam)
    • Entry point details (Domel or Chandanwari)

Applicants are encouraged to provide accurate Aadhaar and contact details during registration.

Preparations and Safety Measures

Authorities, including local police and disaster response teams, are conducting training and preparedness exercises to ensure a safe pilgrimage.
