Amarnath Yatra will start from 3rd July, registration will start from 15th April

Amarnath Yatra will run from 3rd July to 28th August. Registrations will start from 15th April. This time RFID cards, increased insurance cover and better security arrangements have been made. Devotees aged between 13 to 70 years will be able to travel.

Srinagar: The dates of Amarnath Yatra 2026, one of the most prestigious pilgrimages of India, have been officially announced. This year the Yatra will start from 3rd July 2026 and continue till 28th August 2026. In this journey which lasts for a total of 57 days, lakhs of devotees from India and abroad come to see Baba Barfani.

Announcing the itinerary on Sunday, Manoj Sinha said that this time also devotees will be able to reach the holy cave through both the traditional Pahalgam and Baltal routes. Registrations for the yatra will start from April 15.

Amarnath Yatra is not only a matter of religious faith but also a symbol of courage, discipline and collective order in the difficult geographical conditions of the Himalayan region. Every year, the administration, security agencies, health services and local communities make extensive preparations to make this Yatra a success.

Tour duration and key dates

This year the Yatra will begin on July 3 and conclude with the holy Shravani festival around Raksha Bandhan on August 28.

Before the yatra, the first puja will be performed in the cave on the occasion of Jyeshtha Purnima on June 19. This tradition is considered an important part of the religious rituals before the official start of the Yatra.

The first batch will leave from Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu. From here the devotees will be allowed to proceed after various security and health checks.

Who can travel?

The age limit for Amarnath Yatra has been fixed from 13 years to 70 years.

Devotees applying for the Yatra must ensure that they are physically fit, as the Yatra is challenging in terms of altitude, weather and difficult trekking.

Pregnant women, serious heart patients, patients with respiratory problems and people with unstable health conditions are required to consult a doctor before travelling.

Registration Process: Both Online and Offline Options

1. Offline Registration

Devotees will be able to register offline through 556 designated bank branches across the country.

2. Online Registration

Devotees will also be able to apply through the official website of Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board.

Online application will facilitate slot booking, uploading of medical certificate and selection of travel date.

What’s new in this journey?
Tracking with RFID card

This time, RFID card facility will be provided for the safety of the devotees.
With this, the administration will be able to track the location of passengers and help can be provided immediately in case of any emergency.

Group accidental insurance cover for passengers has been increased from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.

This decision has been taken in view of the possible risk in inaccessible high altitude areas.

relief to pony owners

In case of death of horses and mules (ponies) used in the journey, a compensation of Rs 50,000 will be given.

This step has been taken keeping in mind the interests of local service providers.

25% increase in facilities

The administration reported that:

Medical camps have been increased

The number of emergency rescue teams has been increased

Shelters and resting places on the roads have been improved

Communications and weather alert systems have been strengthened

two main routes of travel

1. Pahalgam Route: Safe and Traditional

The journey via Pahalgam route is approximately 48 kilometers long.

This route is relatively easy, but the journey can take up to 3 days.

It is considered better for the elderly and families.

2. Baltal Route: Fast but challenging

The journey via Baltal route is only 14 kilometers.

requires more physical ability

This route is useful for travelers with short commutes, but may be difficult for the elderly.

Why is Amarnath Yatra special?

The natural ice Shivalinga formed in the Amarnath cave is considered a symbol of Lord Shiva.

It is believed that Lord Shiva told the secret of immortality to Mother Parvati in this cave. For this reason this journey is considered very sacred in the Hindu faith.

Every year lakhs of devotees reach here despite the difficult weather and high mountains. This journey is not just a darshan, but also an experience of patience, faith and dedication.
