Amartya Bhattacharyya’s directorial ‘Lahari’ bags Best Odia Film Honour at 72nd National Film Awards
Odia cinema has earned another major national recognition as filmmaker Amartya Bhattacharyya’s directorial Lahari won the Best Odia Film award at the 72nd National Film Awards, announced by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Saturday.
The prestigious honour celebrates the finest Odia feature film certified in 2024 and marks another milestone for the state’s film industry.
The award recognises Lahari for its cinematic excellence and adds to director Amartya Bhattacharyya’s growing list of acclaimed works in Indian regional cinema. The filmmaker has previously received appreciation for his distinctive storytelling and visually rich narratives.
The 72nd National Film Awards honoured films certified by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) during 2024. Alongside Lahari’s regional triumph, Article 370 was named Best Feature Film, while Yami Gautam won Best Actress and Kartik Aaryan and Mammootty shared the Best Actor award.
The recognition is expected to further strengthen the visibility of Odia cinema on the national stage, highlighting the industry’s evolving storytelling and creative excellence.
