Amazing work of Delhi AIIMS…. Created AI platform ‘Shwasa’, it will detect disease by the sound of cough

New Delhi. Even in the medical field, the role of AI i.e. Artificial Intelligence is increasing rapidly. Doctors at Delhi AIIMS have conducted a study on an AI platform (mobile app) named ‘Shwasa’ developed in Karnataka. This AI app listens to the cough of any patient and analyzes it through the smartphone and on the basis of this, comes to know which disease of the lungs or respiratory system the patient is suffering from.

Serious illness can also be identified
AIIMS experts claim that through this AI technology, serious diseases like Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) can also be identified. Dr. Harshal Ramesh Salve, Additional Professor, Center for Community Medicine, Delhi AIIMS, said that no institute in North India had studied this AI-based app developed in Karnataka. Doctors of Delhi AIIMS studied this.

  • The results of the study were accurate
Dr. Harshal Ramesh Salve said that during the study, cough samples of 460 people were collected and based on them, AI analyzed and examined them. To a large extent, its analysis and results were found to be correct. It can be used through any smart phone.

    This app will be beneficial
Dr. Harshal Ramesh Salve, Additional Professor, Center for Community Medicine, Delhi AIIMS, said that once recorded on the smartphone, this AI app analyzes the patterns of subtle sounds to identify signs of airway obstruction or lung abnormalities and will give the results in less than five minutes.

    this would be beneficial
Dr. Salve, Additional Professor, Delhi AIIMS, said that a spirometer is needed to check lung disease. This machine is very expensive and requires an expert to operate it. Installing such machines at primary or secondary medical centers in small towns or rural areas would be very expensive.

    can be used here
A large number of experts will also be required for this. But on this AI-based platform, neither machines nor experts will be required to check the lungs. The staff posted in hospitals will also be able to investigate through this. It can also be used in primary health centers like ‘Ayushman Arogya Mandir’.

    this is how it works
This AI based app records the cough of patients through mobile. Dr. Harshal Ramesh Salve of Delhi AIIMS said that just as doctors listen to the heartbeats of patients using a stethoscope, similarly this technology understands the nuances of the sound of cough and gives a health score by combining the symptoms of the patient with cough.

Diseases will be identified in their early stages
This helps doctors understand what the disease is and helps in treating it based on that. He says that with this easy diagnosis system, the disease will be detected at the initial time and the patients will get timely treatment. This will help in identifying diseases like lung cancer at the initial stage.
