Amazon CEO reached India, announced to expand quick commerce service in 300 Indian cities
Read Desk. Amazon already has a strong hold in the Indian e-commerce market. But with Quick Commerce growing rapidly across the country, the company now wants a bigger stake. As part of this effort, Amazon is expanding its ultra-fast delivery service ‘Amazon Now’ to more than 300 cities in India. The company says that this step will help it create the country’s largest ‘delivery within minutes’ network.
During his recent visit to India, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced plans to significantly expand the company’s quick commerce business. This announcement has come at a time when competition is increasing in India’s quick commerce market. Companies like Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy Instamart and Flipkart Minutes are rapidly expanding beyond major metros to attract the next wave of online shoppers.
In an official blog post, Amazon said its Quick Commerce service has become the fastest-growing e-commerce business among the company’s operations in India, with orders doubling every quarter since its launch. The company also said that Prime members who start using Amazon Now typically triple their shopping frequency.
Amazon Now is currently available to over 5 crore customers in over 15 metro and non-metro cities including Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Amritsar and Kochi. With this proposed expansion, Amazon wants to increase its network of micro-fulfillment centers and urban fulfillment facilities, so that products can be stored closer to customers and delivered within minutes or a few hours.
The service offers thousands of products across multiple categories, including groceries, fresh fruits and vegetables, frozen foods, beauty and personal care items, fashion products, home essentials and small appliances. Amazon says that this expansion will provide faster delivery to customers in small cities and will also increase the availability of products.
This latest announcement also represents a significant acceleration in Amazon’s Quick Commerce goals. Earlier, the company had planned to expand Amazon Now to 100 cities and create more than 1,000 micro-fulfillment centres. The new target of more than 300 cities significantly expands the scope of that effort.
Amazon’s move comes just days after Walmart-backed Flipkart announced to expand its quick commerce operations. Flipkart Minutes said it has already built a network of 1,000 micro-fulfillment centers and plans to increase this number to 1,500 by the end of 2026, while also expanding into smaller cities in India.
