Amazon India introduces AI chatbot Rufus ahead of 'Festival Sale'

E-commerce major Amazon India has introduced a new generative AI-powered conversational 'shopping assistant' called Rufus ahead of its upcoming festive sale. Rufus enables natural language conversations within the Amazon app, making it easier to ask product-related questions, get recommendations, or compare products, the company said in a statement.

Saurabh Srivastava, President, Categories, Amazon India, said, “Whether typing or speaking, customers can now enjoy a more seamless shopping experience. This is further enhanced with the help of AI-powered tools.” It has also introduced artificial intelligence (AI)-powered 'Review Highlights', which uses generative-AI to show customer reviews about a product.

The 'Amazon Great Indian Festival' is scheduled to begin on September 27, 2024. Prime members will be able to get access 24 hours early. “In addition to the deals being offered by the brand, Amazon is offering around 25,000 new products from top brands across categories such as electronics, mobile phones, TVs, appliances, fashion, healthcare and more,” Srivastava said. Amazon India this week announced the launch of three new fulfilment centres in Delhi NCR, Guwahati and Patna.
