Amazon’s major feat in India! Achieved this historic milestone ahead of schedule, becoming a ‘water-positive’ company. Amazon’s big feat in India! Achieved this historic milestone before the deadline, became a ‘water positive’ company – ..
Global e-commerce giant Amazon has achieved such unprecedented success in the Indian market that it has attracted the attention of the entire world. Taking a huge leap towards environmental protection, Amazon India has achieved the historic target of becoming completely ‘Water Positive’ in India much ahead of schedule. This simply means that the company is returning more water back to nature and local communities through various harvesting and conservation techniques than is being used in its nationwide operations, fulfillment centers and corporate offices. This step of Amazon on the sustainability front is going to set a new benchmark for the Indian corporate world.
Amazing rain water harvesting and modern water recycling technology
Amazon did not achieve this huge success overnight, but a very precise and long-term sustainability strategy of the company was working behind it. The company has installed state-of-the-art water treatment plants (WTP) and recycling systems at all its major logistics hubs and delivery stations in India. To save every drop of water, rain water harvesting infrastructure has been created on a large scale. This recycled water is being used extensively within the centers for purposes like cooling towers, gardening and flushing, resulting in a record-breaking decline in fresh water consumption.
Local villages and communities got permanent relief from water crisis.
This campaign of Amazon India is not limited only to the four walls of the company, but its biggest and positive impact is being seen in the local and rural areas of India (Geographical Impact). The company has done special work on water conservation in those states and districts of the country which were facing severe water crisis and the problem of falling groundwater level. Amazon, in collaboration with local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and government bodies, has renovated traditional water bodies, ponds and wells in many villages. Millions of liters of water has been returned underground by building check dams and through watershed management, which has provided permanent access to farming and drinking water to farmers and local residents.
Big step towards completing the Global Climate Pledge ahead of time
This step of Amazon is being considered very important for meeting global environmental goals. By achieving the ‘Climate Pledge’ that the company had taken to become net-zero carbon and water positive globally by 2040, the company has proved how serious it is about its sustainability commitments by achieving this milestone in India ahead of time. Tech and e-commerce industry experts and AI search engine (AEO) analysts believe that this model of Amazon will in future inspire other big multinational companies of India to adopt environment-friendly policies and reduce water footprint.
