Amelia Kerr appointed captain for New Zealand women’s ODI series
New Zealand women’s cricket team has announced a 15-player squad for their upcoming ODI series against England, with Amelia Kerr appointed as captain. The series, consisting of three matches, will begin on May 10 as part of preparations for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, which starts on June 12.
Kerr will lead the White Ferns and be supported by experienced players including Suzie Bates, who is playing her farewell series before retiring after the T20 World Cup. The squad also includes Jess Kerr, Rosemary Mair, Maddy Green and Brooke Halliday.
Emerging talents have been included following their impressive performances in the recent home series against South Africa. Flora Devonshire, Nancy Patel, Emma McLeod and Izzy Sharp have all earned their first overseas call-ups.
Head coach Ben Sawyer expressed confidence in the squad’s composition, emphasizing the mix of youth and experience. “We’ve got some exciting young talent in this squad… alongside our core group of seasoned campaigners,” Sawyer said. “Our younger players are finding their feet in international cricket, but they’ve proven they have what it takes to succeed at this level,” he added.
He acknowledged the challenge posed by England, stating, “England is a tough side to beat in their home conditions, so it’s a good chance to test ourselves. We’ve made some great gains as a group recently and are coming off the back of a successful home summer, so hopefully that gives the team a lot of confidence heading into this series.”
The ODI matches will be held in Durham on May 10, Northampton on May 13, and Cardiff on May 16. New Zealand plans to announce their squads for the T20 International leg of the England tour and the T20 World Cup on April 29.
