America announces new climate action plan, will have to reduce 61-66 percent greenhouse gas emissions

New Delhi: America announced its latest climate action plan on Thursday. In which it has been asked to reduce emissions by 61-66 percent from 2005 levels by 2035. The US is the largest emitter of greenhouse gases in the world. The latest climate plan is expected to have a wide-ranging impact on global climate action.

The Biden administration started this ambitious plan. Newly elected President Donald Trump has been expressing his intention to withdraw America from the Paris Agreement. The Paris Agreement is a global agreement to tackle climate change.

Four countries have adopted climate goals

If Trump follows through on this, it would mean that he would back out of any commitments under the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC). With this announcement, America has become the fourth country to adopt its climate goals. Earlier, the UAE, Britain and Brazil had made their plans during the UN climate summit COP29 held in Baku, Azerbaijan last month.

Many countries want to postpone COP30 decisions

Developing and poor countries reluctantly accepted the new climate finance agreement at COP29. Because they feared that if the discussion was postponed till COP30 to be held in Brazil next year, the results could be even worse. A former Indian negotiator said that many countries wanted to postpone this decision. But he was concerned that the next round of talks would be even more difficult. Especially when America is expected to retreat under Trump's rule.
