America bombed Iranian military sites, IRGC attacked Kuwait with drones and missiles
Desk. The US bombed Iranian radar and drone control sites after Iran shot down an American ‘MQ-1 Predator’ drone over the weekend. America’s army gave this information on Monday. Iran admitted retaliating. Meanwhile, Kuwait said that it was attacked by drones and missiles, which its air defense systems took action to prevent from reaching their targets.
These attacks reflect the fragile state of the ceasefire that has been in place for several weeks in the Iran war. American and Iranian officials are trying to negotiate an agreement to extend the duration of this ceasefire, but despite this the attacks continue.
Iran is maintaining its grip on the Strait of Hormuz which has disrupted global energy supplies. One-fifth of the global trade in oil and natural gas once passed through this narrow mouth of the Persian Gulf. Meanwhile, the situation is becoming increasingly worrying. Israel has also captured territory beyond the Litani River in Lebanon, while the militant group Hezbollah continues to launch drone attacks into Israel.
The US military’s ‘Central Command’ said it carried out strikes around the city of Geruk and Qeshm Island in Iran on Saturday and Sunday. The Central Command said, ‘These limited and deliberate strikes were carried out in response to Iran’s aggressive actions, including the shooting down of an American MQ-1 drone flying over international waters.’
It said, ‘US warplanes responded quickly and destroyed Iranian air defense systems, a ground control center and two drones that posed a clear threat to ships passing through territorial waters.’
The US Air Force has removed the Predator drone from service and now uses the ‘MQ-9 Reaper’ drone, but the US Army still uses the Predator drone. The US military said that no American soldiers were injured in these attacks.
Meanwhile, Kuwait said its air defense systems went into action early Monday to intercept drone and missile attacks. The Iranian paramilitary Revolutionary Guard said in a statement that US forces targeted a telecommunications tower on an island, Iran’s state news agency IRNA reported.
The Revolutionary Guard said it retaliated but did not say where the attack was carried out. Earlier, US President Donald Trump met his advisors on Friday but he has not yet decided whether to proceed with the agreement to extend the ceasefire period and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran has said that the agreement has not been finalized yet. Trump wrote in a post on his ‘Truth Social’ platform early Monday, ‘Iran really wants to make a deal and this would be a good deal for America and the countries standing with us. Just rest assured, everything will work out fine in the end – it always does!’
