America-Iran close to ceasefire! Consensus reached on 14 point agreement, next 48 hours are very important
Washington/Islamabad. The long-running tension and war-like situation in the Gulf region now appears to be coming to an end. According to American website ‘Axios’ and sources in mediator Pakistan, a one-page, 14-point agreement (MOU) is very close to being agreed between the US and Iran. It is believed that Iran can give its final approval regarding the ceasefire within the next 48 hours.
5 important terms of the agreement-
1. Immediate ceasefire will come into effect
Under the proposed agreement, all military activities in the Strait of Hormuz and surrounding sensitive areas will be immediately stopped, so that peace can be restored in the region.
2. Temporary ban on nuclear program-
Iran may agree to halt its nuclear program for a period of time and send enriched uranium out of the country. This is being considered the most important point of the agreement.
3. America will give relief in sanctions-
In return, America will reduce the economic sanctions imposed on Iran in a phased manner. Besides, Iran’s assets worth billions of dollars stuck abroad can also be released.
4. Traffic will be normal in the Strait of Hormuz-
An agreement is also being made to normalize the movement of commercial and oil ships in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil routes.
5. There will be strict monitoring on nuclear bases-
International inspectors of the United Nations (UN) will be given the right to conduct ‘snap inspections’ on Iran’s nuclear sites, so that compliance with the agreement can be monitored.
Biggest controversy: Time limit to stop nuclear program-
According to sources, the biggest hurdle in the talks is the period of stopping the nuclear programme. While Iran wants to limit it to 5 years, America’s initial demand was for 20 years.
At present, efforts are being made between the two parties to reach an agreement on a period of 12 to 15 years. Cities like Islamabad or Geneva are being considered as possible venues for this important conversation.
Tension still persists-
Although efforts for a peace agreement are ongoing, regional tension has not completely ended. Iran has launched missile and drone attacks on UAE for the second consecutive day, due to which the situation still remains sensitive.
India is strict on injuries to Indian citizens-
India has reacted strongly after three Indian citizens were injured in the Fujairah attack. India has clearly stated that targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure is completely unacceptable.
The Government of India has expressed concern over the safety of Indians living in the area and has appealed to all parties to exercise restraint.
