America-Iran war expenses: Financial pressure on Trump increases

America: The ongoing war between America and Iran has shaken not only the security situation of West Asia but also the American economy. 779 million dollars i.e. about Rs 6,900 crore has been spent in the first 24 hours on this ongoing military action under the leadership of President Donald Trump. This figure shows how quickly modern warfare depletes the treasury.

Trump has indicated that this conflict could last for at least a month and if necessary, it could take longer. In such a situation, the question is arising that if this war continues for a long time, how much impact will it have on the American economy and how much burden will it increase on the common American taxpayer.

thousands of crores in 24 hours

According to reports, if this war extends beyond a month, the total expenditure can reach 210 billion dollars i.e. approximately Rs 18.87 lakh crore. This amount is only for military operations, it does not include post-war reconstruction, care of injured soldiers and long-term strategic expenses.

The cost of war is not limited to figures alone. It has a direct impact on the country’s budget, social schemes and tax structure. When the government increases defense spending, pressure on other sectors like health, education and infrastructure may increase.

Heavy expenditure of aircraft carrier strike group

Even before the attacks on Iran, America had deployed two Aircraft Carrier Strike Groups in the Middle East. These also include the world’s largest aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford. It costs about $6.5 million or Rs 58 crore per day to operate a strike group.

This includes fueling ships, flying fighter planes, deploying missile systems and the logistics needs of thousands of soldiers. 630 million dollars i.e. about Rs 5,556 crore had already been spent in the preparations before the war started. This amount was spent only on deployment and mobilization of resources.

already increased defense spending

The US already has massive military spending in the Middle East. Since Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, the US has provided $21.7 billion in military aid to Israel. Additionally, $9.65 to $12.07 billion was spent to support operations in Yemen, Iran and the broader region.

According to Brown University’s 2025 Costs of War report, if all these expenses are added, the total amount reaches 31.35 to 33.77 billion dollars i.e. 2.82 to 3.04 lakh crore rupees. Now a direct war with Iran has further increased this burden.

Possible impact on the US economy

If the war drags on, the US budget deficit could increase. Increasing defense expenditure means that the government will either have to take more debt or increase taxes. This may also affect inflation and interest rates.

If the war continues for a long time, volatility in the stock market may increase. Oil prices may rise, which will affect the global economy. This will also have an impact on America’s domestic politics, because in the election environment the public gives priority to economic issues.
