America recognized India, it is necessary to buy oil from Russia

America has considered India as an important partner in the global oil market. Purchasing oil from Russia is now considered essential. India’s role in oil stability, refining and supply chain is important.

America: Till a few months ago, America was pressurizing India to buy oil from Russia. The US administration was demanding India to stop buying oil from Russia and warnings like 25 percent additional tariff were also given. But now America has completely changed its stance amidst the war in West Asia and the instability of the global energy market. America is now considering India as an important partner in keeping the global oil market stable.

India has made an important contribution to the stability of the global oil market.

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore said on social media platform X that India is one of the world’s largest oil consumers and refiners. He wrote that it is necessary for America and India to work together for the stability of the global oil market. India’s procurement and refining capacity plays a vital role in the global supply chain.

Trump administration had earlier made a policy of pressure

Till recently, the US administration was pressurizing India to stop purchasing oil from Russia. After Western sanctions, America wanted big buyers like India to stay away from Russian oil. Under this pressure, a warning was also given to impose 25 percent additional tariff on India. US officials had also informed about the possible negative consequences of buying oil from Russia.

But due to conflict in West Asia and uncertainty in the global oil market, America has now considered India’s role as positive. US President Donald Trump had also said that India has been given permission to buy oil from Russia so that the pressure on crude oil prices in the international market can be reduced.

Uncertainty in the global oil market

Uncertainty has increased in the global oil market after America’s attacks on Iran and Israel. Due to the fear of impact on oil supply, sharp fluctuations are being seen in prices. Many countries of the world are suffering the consequences of this instability. This is a matter of concern for America because it may increase opposition to its action on Iran. In such a situation, the role of those countries has become important which maintain balance in the global market through demand and refining.

India is the world’s third largest oil consumer

India is the third largest oil consumer country in the world. The country consumes about 55–56 lakh barrels of oil daily, which is about 5–6 percent of global consumption. Because of this, India’s purchases directly impact global oil prices. If India suddenly reduces its purchases or stops taking oil from any major source, a large part of global demand will shift to other suppliers. This will lead to a sharp rise in prices and may create a supply crisis in many countries.

India is an important part of the global supply chain

India is not only a big consumer but also a refining hub. The country’s refineries process imported crude oil and make petrol, diesel and other petrochemical products. These products are exported to many countries including Asia and Europe. Because of this, Indian procurement has become an important part of the global supply chain.

America’s new strategy

Now American officials believe that India buying oil from Russia helps in keeping the global oil market stable. The earlier pressure measures like warnings and tariffs are now being considered necessary for the stability of the international market. For both India and America, this strategy will be helpful in balancing the energy market and controlling prices.
