India did wonders in solar energy in 9 months, added 16.4 gigawatt solar capacity
New Delhi : India has done a lot of work in the solar energy sector, the effect of which is already visible. American research company Mercom Capital, in one of its reports, has praised the country's solar energy sector and said that 16.4 gigawatt solar capacity has been added in the country during January-September, which can be called quite remarkable.

According to the report, 6.2 gigawatts of solar capacity was added in the country in the same period last year.
Giving information in the report, it has been said that this achievement of India is remarkable. It is written in 'India Solar Market Update', “A total of 16.4 GW of solar projects were added in India in the first nine months (January-September) of 2024, an increase of more than 167 per cent compared to 6.2 GW for the same period in 2023. “Commissioning of several previously delayed projects contributed to capacity addition in the first nine months of 2024.”
According to information received from the report, 3.5 gigawatt solar capacity was added in the July-September period, which is 78 percent more than the same period last year. India's total installed solar capacity by September 2024 stands at 89.1 GW, of which grid-connected projects contribute more than 86 per cent. The contribution of rooftop solar energy is about 14 percent. Solar energy accounts for about 20 percent of India's installed power capacity and more than 44 percent of the total installed renewable energy capacity.
Rajasthan, Gujarat and Karnataka are the top three states in terms of total installed extensive solar capacity. In the first nine months of 2024, tenders for 57.6 GW were announced, the highest ever during a nine-month period of any year. This is 40 percent more than the 41.1 GW tender issued in the first nine months of 2023.
Tenders for 16.2 GW were announced in the third quarter of 2024, up more than 19 percent from 13.6 GW in the same period of 2023.
