America’s new defense strategy 2026: China not considered a challenge

America released its new national defense strategy NDS 2026. China is no longer considered the biggest security challenge. The policy emphasizes avoiding direct military intervention on Taiwan and maintaining the regional balance of power.

World News: America has released its new National Defense Strategy (NDS 2026), in which China is no longer considered the biggest security challenge. The main focus of this strategy is on maintaining the regional balance of power and not on direct military confrontation. The new policy emphasizes avoiding direct US military intervention in the event of China’s attack on Taiwan. Only arms, training and strategic cooperation will be offered.

Big change in Taiwan policy

In earlier policy, America had given clear support for the defense of Taiwan. Under the 2022 strategy, it was said that if China attacks, the US will support the asymmetric defense of Taiwan and will intervene directly if necessary. But now there is no such promise in the new strategy. The US will now focus only on maintaining the balance of power through regional allies and preventing China from becoming dominant.

The Pentagon has described this strategy as ‘deterring by force, not by confrontation’. This means that the US will try to balance China’s growing influence, but will not directly engage in war. Due to this change, a significant change is being seen in America’s role and policy in the Indo-Pacific region.

Priority on homeland and security

America has made its priorities clear in the new strategy. First of all, attention will be given to the security of the motherland and its surrounding areas. It covers four main points:

    • Strengthening the defense of the motherland.

    • Making allied countries more self-reliant.

    • Strengthening America’s defense industry.

    • To stop the growing power of China.

The US plans to maintain its military and trade access to strategic areas, such as Greenland. The missile defense system in North America will be strengthened. Also, allies in Europe and Asia have been asked to increase their security and defense budgets. Now America will pay less attention to its allies and more to its national interests.

Main goal to maintain regional balance of power

The new policy aims to maintain regional balance of power while avoiding direct confrontation. America, along with its allies, will try to balance China’s influence in the Indo-Pacific region. The strategy signals China’s increasing pressure and deterring military efforts despite avoiding direct war.

Ensure security together with allies

In the new strategy, America has emphasized on making allies more self-reliant. This means that America will strengthen the defense and security capabilities of its partner countries, so that they can protect their own territory if needed. This policy is an important signal to Taiwan, Japan, South Korea and other Indo-Pacific allies.
