New Delhi: The International Cricket Council on February 24 announced the sale of tickets for the semi-finals and final of the T20 World Cup 2026. These tickets became available from 7 pm onwards. But, it is not yet clear in which city the last three matches of the tournament will be played. The political situation in the tournament, which is being co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, has complicated the implementation of the event.
Suspense continues at the venue
According to sources, the semi-finals were planned to be held in Kolkata and Mumbai. However, if Pakistan team makes it to the knockout round, then these matches will be held in Colombo. Under the hybrid model, Pakistan is playing all its matches in Sri Lanka. In this case, if it reaches the semi-finals or final, the respective match will be shifted to Colombo.
Agreement between India and Pakistan
Many possibilities are open due to the agreement reached between India and Pakistan. If Pakistan reaches the semi-finals, they will face the first semi-final in Colombo on March 4. If he makes it to the final, that match will also be shifted to Sri Lanka. If Pakistan does not make it to the last four, the matches will be held in designated cities in India.
Confusion in front of fans
Another complication emerged when the ICC informed that even if co-host Sri Lanka reached the semi-finals, the match would still be held in Colombo. However, if they face India, the match will be held in Kolkata. This has created a situation of confusion for the ticket buying audience.
Ticket booking and uncertainty
ICC has started selling tickets, while it is not yet decided which four teams will play in the semi-finals. The first semi-final will be held in either Kolkata or Colombo. The second semi-final will be held at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The final is scheduled to be held in Ahmedabad, but the situation in Pakistan may change this. Due to this uncertainty, visitors are finding it difficult to plan their travel.
increasing burden on fans
ICC has clarified that if the venue of the match is changed, the ticket amount will be refunded. However, this refund will be limited to tickets only. If someone has already incurred flight, hotel or other travel expenses, they will not be reimbursed. This puts the risk entirely on the audience. Supporters may face inconvenience while trying to maintain the flexibility of the event.
