Amidst tension in the Middle East, ICC made emergency plan for T20 World Cup

New Delhi: The T20 World Cup 2026, jointly organized by India and Sri Lanka, is underway. Meanwhile, the situation in the Middle East has become tense due to the military action taken by America and Israel on Iran. The International Cricket Council (ICC) is keeping a close eye on the current situation.

According to reports, ICC has clarified that there has been no direct impact on the tournament yet. However, taking precaution, preparation of emergency plan has been started. The ICC recognizes that many players, officials and broadcast personnel involved in this tournament are dependent on airports in the Gulf region to return to their countries.

ICC statement

Dubai International Airport (DXB) is a major transit hub in this context, handling a large number of international flights. According to media reports, an ICC spokesperson said that the safety of all individuals associated with the tournament is the top priority. That is why travel, logistics and security teams have been kept active 24 hours. The aim is to ensure the safe return of players, team staff, match officials, broadcast teams and other personnel associated with the event without any disruption.

fan appeal

The ICC has requested fans to pay attention to the advisories issued and the current circumstances before international travel. Especially those spectators who are planning to return abroad after watching the match, have been advised to re-review their travel plans.

Finding alternative travel routes

Keeping in mind the current situation, an ICC team is working closely with major airlines to identify alternative travel routes if required. This includes connecting flights via other international hubs in Europe, South Asia and South-East Asia, thereby reducing dependence on the Gulf region.

Possibility of issuing new advisory

ICC’s security advisors are in constant touch with the countries and agencies concerned. As soon as the situation changes, a new advisory will be issued immediately. A special travel support desk has also been set up to assist everyone associated with the tournament.
