Amidst the continuous cancellation of flights, Indigo Chairman gave clarification, said – ‘The crisis is not intentional, many reasons are responsible’

Amid the ongoing chaos in the country’s largest private airline IndiGo for the past one week, company chairman Vikram Singh Mehta has come forward and publicly apologized to the passengers. Earlier, the CEO of the airline had also expressed regret regarding this crisis, but this statement of Mehta is being considered as a clear indication of the seriousness of the company regarding the entire incident.

In his eight-minute video message, Mehta admitted that since December 3, many flights had to be canceled and due to this, passengers had to face huge inconvenience. He said that the airline has failed to provide smooth and reliable service to its customers, for which he personally apologizes. According to him, the situation is now rapidly normalizing and flight operations are beginning to stabilize earlier than expected.

Denied allegations of deliberately creating trouble

In recent days, some reports had claimed that Indigo deliberately created this crisis with the aim of avoiding the new rules or putting pressure on the government. Chairman Mehta termed all these allegations as baseless. He said that the airline has always followed the guidelines issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and operated under the new instructions related to pilot fatigue from July to November. He said in strong words that Indigo has neither compromised on safety standards nor tried to influence government rules. There is no basis for these allegations.

DGCA investigation and appointment of external experts

Mehta said that DGCA is conducting a detailed investigation into this series of incidents to understand the reasons why thousands of passengers across the country were affected. He said that Indigo management is fully cooperating in the investigation. Along with this, the airline has also decided to involve external technical experts, who will thoroughly investigate the operational flaws and ensure that such a situation does not arise again in future.

Many reasons together created the crisis

Describing those days of December 3 to 5 as extremely challenging, Mehta said that suddenly many unexpected circumstances came together, which increased the pressure on the entire operation of the airline. He said that due to the simultaneous emergence of small technical problems, changes in flight schedules in winter, adverse weather conditions, heavy congestion at airports across the country and new crew rostering rules, there was a sudden additional burden on the airline’s system. He clarified that this is in no way an excuse, but rather circumstances which affected the company’s normal operations and led to the cancellation of a large number of flights.

Reputation tarnished, trust has to be won again

Chairman Mehta also admitted that this entire incident has affected IndiGo’s long-built reputation. He said that this incident is like a stain on the trust that we had maintained over the years. We will have to work harder to eradicate it.

He also admitted that it will not be easy to regain the trust of passengers. In Mehta’s words, merely apologizing does not complete the matter. We have to prove through our work that IndiGo is the same reliable airline on which passengers have always reposed their trust. Our goal is that such problems should never arise again.

efforts to normalize operations

In the video message, Mehta said that the airline’s team is working day and night so that flight operations are completely back on track soon. He claimed that the situation has improved a lot compared to earlier and most of the services have started running regularly again. He expressed hope that soon Indigo will start flying with 100 percent capacity.

At the end of his address, Mehta once again apologized to the passengers and assured that the company will learn from this entire experience and strengthen its operating system. He said that IndiGo’s aim is to set the standard of quality and reliability in the Indian aviation sector and the airline will fulfill this responsibility more seriously in the coming days.
