Delhi government’s big decision amid LPG crisis, migrant laborers will get relief, just have to show ID proof

New Delhi: Amidst the problems in LPG supply in the capital, the Delhi government has taken a big relief step. The Department of Food and Supplies and Consumer Affairs has announced that now migrant laborers will be able to get gas cylinders even without regular LPG connection. According to the government, such needy laborers can get a 5 kg LPG cylinder by showing their valid identity card. The objective of this decision is to provide relief to those people who are temporarily living in Delhi and do not have a permanent gas connection. Officials say that due to supply disruption in recent times, small consumers and daily wage laborers were facing problems in many areas. Keeping this in mind, this temporary arrangement has been implemented.

Officials at the press conference said that migrant laborers can now get a 5 kg LPG cylinder by showing Aadhaar card or other valid identity card, even if they do not have a regular gas connection. This step has been taken especially to provide relief to those people who are temporarily staying in Delhi. The department also informed that a control room has been set up to monitor LPG supply and resolve public complaints, where consumers can register their problems.

During the press conference, Additional Commissioner of the department, Arun Kumar Jha said that there are about 56 lakh domestic LPG connections in Delhi. He appealed to the people to ensure that their connection is registered in the correct category, so that any kind of misuse can be prevented.

Will have to take PNG connection

Along with clarifying the situation regarding LPG supply, the Delhi government has now emphasized on promoting the use of PNG (Piped Natural Gas). The Department of Food and Supplies and Consumer Affairs has said that wherever PNG connections are available, residents should shift from LPG to PNG. The department clarified that if consumers do not switch to PNG despite it being available, their LPG connections may be affected. This step is being taken with the aim of making the gas distribution system more streamlined and effective.

The government said that the targets have also been increased to promote the use of PNG. Earlier, around 1000 new connections were being added every day, now this target has been increased to 3000 connections per day. According to officials, PNG is not only a safe and convenient option, but it will also reduce the dependence on cylinders, which will reduce the pressure on LPG supply and better ensure the availability of gas to the needy.

27 cases registered for hoarding

Taking action on Thursday, around 100 LPG cylinders were seized from Alipore and Bawana areas. According to officials, this action was taken to stop illegal storage and black marketing. The department has clarified that strict action will continue against those involved in such activities. The government has also appealed to the common people for cooperation. Officials said that if any information about hoarding or illegal sale of LPG is found, it can be immediately informed to Delhi Police.

Crowd at some places due to backlog booking

According to officials, booking of LPG cylinders has now increased to around Rs 2 lakh per day. Earlier on April 1, bookings were recorded at 1.11 lakh, which was less than the normal average of 1.60 lakh. The department said that due to increasing demand and backlog booking, there have been reports of long queues to get gas in some areas of the capital.

Report black marketers

The department has issued two helpline numbers for this – 011-23379836 and 8383824659. These numbers will be active from 9 am to 7 pm, where common citizens can register their complaints. Officials have assured that immediate action will be taken upon receiving the complaint and the identity of the person giving the information will be kept completely confidential.
