Amidst ups and downs, the stock market closed with slight gains, Sensex rose 50 points, Nifty near 25500.
Mumbai, 25 February. There was a lot of volatility in the domestic stock market on Wednesday due to profit booking at upper levels amid positive global signals and in the end both the benchmark indices closed with slight gains. BSE Sensex gained 50 points while NSE Nifty gained 58 points and stood near 25500.
Sensex closed at 82,276.07 points, up 0.06 percent
Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE)’s benchmark index Sensex based on 30 shares closed at 82,276.07 points, up 50.15 points or 0.06 per cent. At one time during trading it had climbed 731.99 points to reach 82,957.91 points. However, the index also witnessed a decline of 93.29 points to hit a low of 82,132.63. Among Sensex related companies, shares of 19 were on the rise while 11 showed weakness.
Nifty closed at 25,482.50 with a gain of 57.85 points.
On the other hand, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) sensitive index Nifty based on 50 shares closed at 25,482.50 points with a gain of 57.85 points or 0.23 percent. The index had gained 227.95 points to reach 25,652.60 points in the day’s trading. Among the companies associated with Nifty, 37 stocks remained in the green and 13 recorded a decline.
HCL Tech’s stock rose the most by 2.80 percent.
Among the companies included in the Sensex group, HCL Tech’s stock rose the most by 2.80 percent. Apart from this, shares of Tata Steel, Tata Consultancy Services, InterGlobe Aviation (Indigo), Sun Pharma, Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki and Tech Mahindra also gained majorly. On the other hand, shares of Reliance Industries, State Bank of India, Adani Ports and Eternal (Zomato) remained in decline.
FIIs made net sale of shares worth Rs 102.53 crore
Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) made a net sale of shares worth Rs 102.53 crore on Tuesday while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) made net purchases of shares worth Rs 3,161.22 crore. Global oil benchmark Brent crude fell 0.14 percent to $70.67 per barrel.
