Sugar: 1 kg
Water: 4-5 cups
Cardamom powder: 1 teaspoon
Saffron (optional): a few threads
Lemon juice: 1-2 teaspoons

First of all, wash and clean the gooseberries. With the help of a fork or knife, make small holes on each gooseberry. This will allow the syrup to soak inside. After this, heat water in a big vessel and add gooseberries in it. Now boil the gooseberries for 5-7 minutes, until they become slightly soft. After boiling, filter the gooseberries and put them in cold water.

Now add sugar and water in a separate vessel and cook on low flame. Keep stirring the syrup continuously so that the sugar dissolves completely.
