An auto driver’s son became the world’s number 1 bowler! Check out his performance on the birthday of ‘Miya Magic’

Mohammad Siraj’s greatest asset is his ever ready attitude. For a fast bowler, it is physically difficult to bowl long spells at 140 km/hr. But Siraj never says no. Be it the bouncy pitches of Australia or the swinging conditions of England, Siraj is the skipper’s trusted weapon, never giving up. In the recent tours of Australia and England, he was the lone warrior in the Indian attack, making his presence felt in every Test without a break.

Siraj’s cricket career started late. He first picked up a ball at the age of 16 and entered the world of club cricket at the age of 19. However, his talent was such that he was selected in Hyderabad’s Ranji team that same year. He impressed the selectors with 41 wickets in the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy and 23 wickets in the 2017-18 Vijay Hazare Trophy. Siraj, who made his T20 international debut in 2017, has never looked back.

Be it the historic Gabba win in 2021 or the Asia Cup final in 2023 where he single-handedly destroyed the Sri Lankan batting, Siraj emerged as a match winner. On 21 January 2023, he became the number one bowler in the ICC ODI rankings, the proudest moment of his career. Siraj has taken 139 wickets in 45 Test matches and 76 wickets in 50 ODIs. He has taken 17 wickets in 17 T20 matches and has taken 109 wickets in 108 IPL matches.

Siraj’s name is associated with India’s golden achievements that will be remembered for centuries. He was a member of the 2023 Asia Cup winning team and played a key role in the 2023 ODI World Cup final. Moreover, he was a key part of the 2024 T20 World Cup and the recent T20 World Cup win at home.

As Team India’s focus shifts to the World Test Championship, Siraj’s role has become even more important. His natural swing with the red ball and his ability to generate reverse swing with the old ball make him a lethal bowler in Test cricket. Indian fans hope that Siraj’s “passion and patience” will help India become world champions in Test cricket in the future.
