Local women’s ‘Brew Cafe’ built on the border bridge! – Obnews
**Indian Army** has inaugurated a unique **’Border Brew Café’** in **Zemithang** village of Tawang district, Arunachal Pradesh, under **Operation Sadbhavna**. This café, built on an old **Bailey Bridge** over the beautiful **Nyamjung Chu** river, blends age-old heritage with modern conveniences. Due to its spectacular location and unique idea, this cafe has quickly gone viral on social media.
Located in a remote area of Tawang, near the India-China border, this cafe has been built in a record **31 days** with the mutual cooperation of the Army’s **Gajraj Corps** and the local people. Its entire management is done by the women of **Monpa** tribal community. Its objective, on the one hand, is to promote eco-tourism and to expose local culture, customs and hospitality to the world, and on the other hand, to create sustainable livelihood opportunities for the people.
Under this new project, an old bridge has been converted into a beautiful café. From here one can have a wonderful view of the river flowing below and the surrounding Himalayan views. The café is expected to become a favorite stop for tourists and travelers visiting the border areas of Arunachal Pradesh, about 70 km from Tawang town.
The main objective of **Operation Sadbhavna** is to enhance mutual goodwill among the people in the border areas, strengthen army-civilian relations and help in socio-economic development. Local people, dignitaries and army personnel participated in the inauguration ceremony with great enthusiasm.
As part of another related initiative, in March 2026, the Indian Army had organized a **one month bakery training program** at **Menchuka** (Mechuka) in Arunachal Pradesh. In this program, about **15 local women** were taught practical skills like bread making, cake preparation, pastry making and hygienic food preparation. The objective of this skill-development program is to make people in remote areas of the border areas self-reliant and create more livelihood opportunities for them.
Both these initiatives are a testament to the Indian Army’s full commitment to empowering the people, promoting sustainable development and building strong relationships with the civilians in the sensitive border areas of the North East.
Videos and photos of Monpa women hosting guests amidst the natural surroundings of the Nyamjung Chu River at this café atop a bridge are garnering rave reviews online.
