Anahat Singh clinches PSA Challenger 6k title in Mumbai

Young Indian squash player Anahat Singh won the JSW 10th Sunil Verma Memorial Tournament 2024, a PSA Challenger 6k tournament, after a straight-game (11-4, 11-3, 11-1) win against compatriot Shameena Riaz in the final in Mumbai on Sunday.

Ranked 90th in the world, Anahat was the top-seeded player, which she proved by clinching the title.

She faced a strong challenge in the semifinal from Iranian player Fereshteh Eghtedari. But she got the better of her in a close four-game (11-5, 11-9, 3-11, 11-5) encounter lasting 31 minutes.

This was Anahat’s third PSA title in November and the eighth overall in the PSA Circuit in 2024.

The 16-year-old will look to maintain this momentum in the upcoming tournaments and rise in the ranking to break into the top 50 in the world rankings, which will help her to become a regular figure on the PSA World Tour circuit.

Meanwhile, Suraj Kumar Chand clinched the men’s singles PSA Challenger 3k title with a straight-game (11-6, 11-6, 11-9) win against top-seeded Ravindu Laksiri of Srilanka in the final.

Ranked 181st in the world, Suraj registered his third consecutive victory against World No. 120 Ravindu this year. Incidentally, all three of these wins came in the tournament finale.
