Anand Mahindra Shows Airdrop-Ready Thar Roxx ATV Meant For Armed Forces
Mahindra is one of the biggest SUV manufacturers in the country. Their SUVs are known for their rugged exterior looks while offering a premium experience to those who sit inside. Mahindra also supplies vehicles to security forces, and we have featured a few on our website in the past. This time, they have decided to customise a Thar Roxx for the security forces, and they are calling it the Mahindra ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle).
Anand Mahindra, who is extremely active on social media, shared images of the Thar Roxx-based ATV on his X profile. The images of the car were posted with a caption:
“Presenting the Mahindra ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle). No excess. No ornamentation. Just focused capability. Every bar, every mount, every inch of clearance has a job to do. From airdrop readiness to mission-grade protection, a gun mount, complete underbody protection, tandem tyre carrier configuration, jerrycan holders, a windshield protector, and a front winch ensuring enhanced survivability, versatility, and operational effectiveness across diverse terrains. Purpose-built for our security forces, and proud to serve them. But to me, this is more than a specialised machine. This is what our DNA looks like… stripped to its essentials. It’s a window into what sits at the heart of every Mahindra vehicle: resilience, adaptability, and the will to go anywhere…”
As mentioned in the caption above, the Mahindra ATV gets a very rugged, utilitarian-looking design. Mahindra worked extensively on this SUV, stripping down several panels to reduce weight and also making additions to ensure that the overall structure and safety of the vehicle are not compromised. The whole vehicle is likely to be customised by defence vehicle division of Mahindra
Mahindra has reinforced the vehicle and added complete underbody protection along with mission-grade protection and a gun mount on the roof. As seen in the pictures, the regular doors have been removed, and we see ATV-style half doors. It also gets a roll cage, steel rims, off-road-spec tyres, windshield protectors, jerry cans and holders, and multiple auxiliary lamps.
The ground clearance has also been enhanced, and the post mentions that the SUV is ready to be airdropped. In case the SUV gets stuck, there is a winch at the front, and we even see hi-lift jacks on the door hinges.
The front continues to offer the signature Mahindra grille with projector LED headlamps and LED DRLs. The spare wheels are mounted at the back, and we can also see that there is space for four people to sit while the vehicle performs patrolling duties.
The SUV is finished in a sand-brown shade, which helps it easily camouflage with the surroundings. As this is an ATV, we are sure that this is the diesel 4×4 variant, as Mahindra only offers 4×4 with that engine in the Roxx.
Alternatively, it is also possible that Mahindra made an exception for the security forces and offered a petrol 4×4 on special request, as petrol engines are more refined and quieter compared to diesels and may also perform better at higher altitudes.
The Thar Roxx for civilians is offered with a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine with manual and automatic transmission options. The 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine is the other option, which also gets manual and automatic options, with 4×4 available as an optional extra in select variants.
