Liverpool Football Club have officially announced the appointment of Andoni Iraola as their new head coach. The 43-year-old Spaniard has signed a two-year deal and becomes the successor to Arne Slot at Anfield.
Andoni Iraola’s Emotional First Words on Joining Liverpool
In his first official comments since the move was confirmed, Iraola expressed huge excitement about taking charge of one of the world’s biggest clubs:
“I am really excited, really excited. Because obviously you know about Liverpool, you know that it’s a big club, a massive club, one of the biggest in the world.”
He continued:
“But feeling inside and understanding a little bit more of this club, I always thought it’s a special club. You don’t need a lot of things to get attracted by Liverpool. Liverpool is Liverpool.”
The new Liverpool boss added:
“But obviously the atmosphere, the supporters, the club, the players, the chance for me to coach top-level players, the chance to fight for titles. I think it cannot be more attractive than this. It’s difficult to find it. So, really excited to start.”
Why Liverpool Chose Andoni Iraola
Liverpool moved swiftly to secure Iraola after a challenging 2025/26 season. The former Bournemouth manager impressed with his high-intensity pressing style, tactical flexibility, and ability to get the best out of his squad. His excellent relationship with sporting director Richard Hughes also played a major role in the appointment.
Iraola’s track record of overachieving with limited resources makes him an exciting fit for the Anfield project as the club looks to reclaim the Premier League title and make a strong run in the Champions League.
