New QR code feature in Google's Quick Share, file sharing becomes even easier
Obnews Tech Desk: Google has introduced a new QR code scanning feature in its Quick Share feature, which makes file sharing between Android devices simpler and faster than ever. This new feature was announced in December 2024, and is now slowly reaching users. Under this, users can now share files by scanning QR codes, eliminating the need to save contacts or device verification.
How does the QR code scanning feature work?
Quick Share is a peer-to-peer data transfer feature that lets users send and receive images, videos, documents and other files to nearby Android, ChromeOS and Windows devices. This technology is based on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Direct, which keeps data encrypted during file transfer.
Earlier, to share files through this feature, users had to add a contact or verify the device. But now, according to a report by 9to5Google, the option of QR code scanning has been added to it. According to the report, this feature will be activated by updating Google Play Services to version 24.49.33.
Benefits of sharing through QR code
Google said that users can now select the media file and tap on the QR code. Other users can scan it and initiate the file transfer securely. This process eliminates the need to add contacts or verify devices.
