Angelina Jolie channels personal grief into emotional ‘Couture’ role

Angelina Jolie is back in action following a brief two-year hiatus after the biographical drama Maria.

On Wednesday, May 20, the 50-year-old actress and filmmaker marked her comeback with her latest high-fashion drama project, Coutureas Vertical released the highly anticipated first look.

Jolie plays Maxine, an American filmmaker whose life changes dramatically when she heads to Paris for Fashion Week.

As shown in the official trailer, Maxine’s life becomes increasingly challenging as she balances an important project, a relationship with a Frenchman portrayed by Louis Garrel, and a shocking breast cancer diagnosis.

Last September, the Oscar winner revealed that she wore one of her late mother’s necklaces during the filming of Couture. Her mother died after a prolonged battle with ovarian and breast cancer on January 27, 2007, at the age of 56.

“I feel like it’s such a personal film. It felt so private that in my mind, it’s probably the one film that doesn’t feel like a film,” she said during a Q&A for the movie at Toronto International Film Festival.

Couture release date

Couturestarring Angelina Jolie and directed by Alice Winocour, is slated for a theatrical release on June 26, 2026.
