Angelina Jolie to receive performer tribute for 'Maria' at 2024 Gotham Awards

WASHINGTON Washington: According to The Hollywood Reporter, actress Angelina Jolie will be honored with a Performer of the Year Tribute for her role as Maria Callas in Pablo Larraín's upcoming film 'Maria' at the 2024 Gotham Awards in New York City on December 2. Gotham Film & Media Institute shared That the Oscar winner will be honored for her performance as legendary opera singer Maria Callas.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gotham executive director Jeffrey Sharp said in a statement, “Just like the great people she plays, Angelina Jolie goes beyond just acting to create something extraordinary. Her interpretation of Maria as an artist Reflects both the complexity of Callas and the cultural resonance that defines an icon.”Directed by Pablo Larraín, known for films like 'Jackie' and 'Spencer,' 'Maria' explores Callas' publicly glamorous but tumultuous- Depicts a return to Paris after a tumultuous life.

The film also stars a talented cast including Kodi Smit-McPhee, Alba Rohrwacher, Pierfrancesco Favino, and Valeria Golina. Maria Callas, who died in Paris in 1977 at the age of 53, remains an enduring figure in the world of opera, and her story resonates deeply in the hearts of audiences. The film received a standing ovation, further increasing anticipation for its release. At the festival, Jolie expressed her gratitude, saying, “I'm so happy to be here tonight. And I'm so grateful to be surrounded by these extremely talented, wonderful people and my beloved So happy to share this platform with friends.” 'Maria' is scheduled to be released in select theaters on November 27, before it will be available on Netflix on December 11.
