Angry fans of Lionel Messi vandalized Salt Lake Stadium, CM Mamata apologized, event organizer arrested
Kolkata, 13 December. The first stop of the world famous Argentinian football star Lionel Messi’s India tour i.e. in Kolkata fell victim to mismanagement and thousands of fans, angry at not getting a glimpse of Messi, vandalized the Salt Lake Stadium. After this mismanagement, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had to apologize and Messi’s event organizer was also arrested.

Indeed, the Kolkata leg of Messi’s GOAT (Greatest of All Time) INDIA Tour turned into chaos when fans hurled bottles at the Salt Lake Stadium and tried to breach security after the football star left the venue early. According to reports, angry fans also vandalized the stadium and alleged poor event management. At present, West Bengal Police has arrested the event organizer over the chaos in Messi’s Kolkata event.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has apologized for this anarchy. Banerjee said, ‘I am deeply saddened and shocked by the chaos at the Salt Lake Stadium today. I was going to the stadium along with thousands of sports lovers and fans who had gathered to catch a glimpse of their favorite footballer Lionel Messi. I sincerely apologize to Lionel Messi as well as all sports lovers and their fans for this unfortunate incident.
I am deeply disturbed and shocked by the mismanagement witnessed today at Salt Lake Stadium. I was on my way to the stadium to attend the event along with thousands of sports lovers and fans who had gathered to catch a glimpse of their favorite footballer, Lionel Messi.

Investigation committee formed under the chairmanship of retired Justice Aseem Kumar Ray.
CM Banerjee ordered the formation of an inquiry committee headed by Justice (retd) Asim Kumar Ray, with the Chief Secretary and Additional Chief Secretary, Home and Hill Affairs Department, as members. This committee will conduct a detailed investigation of the incident and fix responsibility.

West Bengal Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Kumar said, ‘There was some anger or restlessness among the fans that he was not playing. The plan was that he would come here, shake hands, meet some people and leave. Now the government has already formed a committee, which will investigate all aspects, including whether there was any mismanagement on the part of the organizer or anything else. The organizer is giving written notice to the concerned people that the money for the tickets that have been sold will be refunded. Now the situation is under control… We have already taken the organizer into custody.”
