Anil Kapoor plays an ex-army officer who is compelled to pick up arms again

There is plenty of gory violence in the film. What also stands out in the trailer is Anil Kapoor’s raspy voiceover, and the grungy song that underlines Arjun Maurya’s grit and ferocity, lending it great swagger.

Among others in the primary cast, Subedaar features Mona Singh as Babli Didi, who plays the antagonist in the film. While the teaser doesn’t introduce her character, the film also features Khushbu Sundar as Sudha. Panchayat fame Faisal Malik too appears in a major role, appearing as Softie bhaiyya. Saurabh Shukla will be seen playing Arjun’s close friend Prabhakar who stands by his friend through his dangerous battle.

Talking about his role, Anil Kapoor said, “Playing this character has been one of the most emotionally demanding experiences of my career. Suresh Triveni, Vikram Malhotra and their commitment to scale, authenticity, and bold storytelling gave us the freedom to tell this story with the intensity it truly deserves. This journey would not have been possible without the brilliant performances of my co-actors Radhikka, Mona, Saurabh, Aditya, Faisal, and Khushboo, along with the fantastic team behind the lens.” Director Suresh Triveni shared, “Subedaar is a tribute to the mainstream cinema I grew up with. It’s a tribute as an Anil Kapoor fan boy. While it deals with a retired army man acclimatising to the “civilian” life, deep inside it’s a father-daughter story.”

Designed as a masala-laden homage to the Anil Kapoor of the 80s, and his action image, Subedaar marks the actor’s maiden OTT film. The action-drama will begin streaming on Prime Video on March 5.
